Let’s talk about what its like to do business with the government versus the private market.
Example 1:
The WSJ today (non-Op-ed for once ) discusses recent government involvement in the management of GM. For example, as part of the plan to cut costs, GM proposed to close and cut ties with 1,300 under-performing dealerships. But [...]

Socialism-based societies should not be seen as those where the government makes every decision for you, but where its citizens are fully reliant on the government for everything.
The crux is that the government is not powerful, in and of itself, but that it gains its power indirectly from your need for it. [...]

Is food a basic right?
If so, shouldn’t McDonald’s provide food to every hungry person that comes in its doors? Currently, McDonalds won’t because they are a private business and with a policy not to give food to someone who cannot pay for it.
But, if it’s a basic right, shouldn’t the government get involved and:

Oh, the BCS.
I’m torn. I am sooo sick of congressional hearings to investigate steroids, or Mark McGwire, or Roger Clemens, the Mitchell Report, or anything with sports! I don’t believe global warming (or global change) is a threat, but I do believe in taking care of the environment.
It’s obvious that the government is trying to control the environment given all the recent government activity around carbon caps, alternative fuel funding, oil drilling restrictions on federally protected land, etc, under the guise of [...]

Those who support anarchy have the Anarchist Cookbook, those who believe in capitalism have Atlas Shrugged. Here is another WSJ article discussing her ideas from the 1950s that have important relevance today. It is from this weekends edition.
IS RAND RELEVANT?
By YARON BROOK
Ayn Rand died more than a quarter of a century ago, yet her name appears [...]

I’m following coverage of the auto-bailout bill and I keep hearing about this “car czar.” Being unfamiliar with the term, I googled synonyms: despot, baron, and autocrat. Wait! That last one has “auto” in it. Perfect!
Under the House bill, the car czar would have complete access to the books of the companies, power to [...]

I love the environment and think we can all do and should do more to conserve and take care of our beautiful home. In many cases, there are numerous conservation ideas that are not only good for the earth, but also good for your wallet. Things like driving a more fuel efficient car, using those [...]
