A while back California politicians had the brilliant idea to outlaw talking on your cell phone while driving unless you used a hands free device. In anticipation of this new law, millions of drivers purchased a bluetooth hands free device for their cell phone. I remember the first weekend seeing all kinds of dorky old [...]

Beginning January 1, California will restrict private restaurants from selling food cooked with trans fats to willing buyers. Concurrently, there is a grass roots movement to legalize marijuana in the state. Can you have a more crazy state? Are trans fats really more dangerous to the public than weed?

Since many of the readers/writers here are from California, I thought I’d tackle some of their biggest political issues. In doing so, I’ve invited a guest speaker who will participate via webcast. Lets watch her video introduction below (her best points are near the end)…

Do a google search and type in the following letters - legali. I find this topic so fascinating. Isn’t it interesting that this movement would gain strength during a time of massive government deficits? The most likely time to get people to overlook their moral compass is when they are imprisoned by debt. I also think [...]

I know many of our readers live outside of California, so I apologize to you for the many postings about The Golden State. But as the old saying observes, “As goes California, so goes the nation,” so I feel OK posting about all of California’s troubles.
One thing that we have talked about is the absurd amount [...]

We’ve all heard numerous times about the $42 billion budget deficit in California. The number changes all the time. We thought we had it fixed a year ago and then it turned out you can’t tax your way to a balanced budget. State revenues declined much faster than expected and the budget remained in deficit. [...]

Today California votes on props 1A - 1F. You can read about these props here. Polling suggests props 1A - 1E will fail and 1F will pass. I would love for this to happen. Basically, we’ll be telling Sacramento that we are sick of how they run government and how they waste so much money [...]

I voted today. California politicians have the best job ever. They get paid to do nothing. They hand their job over to the people to make the budgeting decisions for them. I read the ballot last night and was annoyed at how poorly worded the initiatives were. Had I not done additional research, I probably [...]

If you’re like me, you wait until the last minute to do your taxes. I guess if I was expecting a refund I would have done them long ago. However, I knew I would be paying this year. I intentionally make my exemption selections on my W4 so I don’t get a refund. Ideally I’d [...]

In today’s WSJ op-ed section, Al Sharpton and Joel Klein wrote a letter to President-elect Obama about schools. Part of their argument was about the difference in achievement between Hispanic and Black students and their White counterparts. What they don’t mention is that the achievement level of the white kids is sub-par as well. As [...]
