Everything good I can think about related to California has nothing to do with the government. The weather and beachers weren't created by the government. Mostly, the negative things about CA come from poor legislative plans.

@Eric: I still love California and I'm reminded of that every time that I visit home. I'm just happy to not be dealing with the high cost of living. I do get the shaft when it comes to property taxes, but otherwise enjoy a fairly low cost of living.

I feel like I have to stick up for California now after reading the above comments. There are many, many dumb things about the state. But they're steering the 8th largest economy in the world. If California was a country, it would be part of the G-8. And the reason it's so big is because millions of people have moved here for the great weather and diverse landscapes. I don't agree with most of the fiscal actions taken by our Congress, especially increasing withholding rates, so I am hoping that the urgency of the current economic environment will change the way the state recklessly spends money. But I'm still willing, at this point at least, to put up with all that for what I get in return in climate and diversity.

Thank you for reminding me how grateful I am that I don't live there anymore. We finally got our tax return last week for 2008 from them. It's about time.

Sorry, buddy. That just flat out stinks. It gives you one more reason to find a new state to live in. :)
