One check and balance is gone

Al Franken is in, a check and balance is out.

It’s a sad day to see one party control two branches of the government. I’m not just saying this because it happens to be the Democrats. The same could be said when Bush had this support during his presidency. I made this comment on Twitter when I heard the news that Al Franken officially won, and a friend responded with this comment (paraphrased): Things like public transportation work would only get approved with democratic control. He might have a point; I do enjoy the nice improvements being made to the roads I drive on in Utah and Colorado. However, let’s look at the other “improvements” that would only get passed by the current democratic control:

  • Overhaul of the health care system
  • Cap-and-trade
  • Nationalization of the auto industry
  • Nationalization of the finance industry
  • Nationalization of [fill in industry here]
So, +1 for the public works, and -1000 for everything else.
Yeah, I’m SO glad we finally have a government that will “get things done.”
