I was talking to my wife about Blurt Daily recently, and she made a comment about how easy it is for everyone to point out what is broken, instead of what is working. It reminded me of Eric’s New Year’s Resolution post where he promised to make 1/4 of all his posts this year about something positive.
In that spirit, I am posting this video from Conan O’Brien with guest Louis CK. We really do live at a great time of luxury and prosperity, and we often take it for granted. I lived in Mozambique for a while and witnessed that it is completely possible for people to be happy without all the 1st world “necessities” (luxuries) that we have. I remember seeing women walk 1.5 kilometers to draw water in the morning, balancing the water jug on their head, only to repeat the process again in the evening.
Next time you’re sitting on a plane and they tell you there will be a “slight” delay, remember this video.

That video was awesome. As Americans we are very ethnocentric and have no idea about what goes on in the real world. I think every college student should be required to do a semester abroad in a developing nation. Over time, as a society, we would become more aware of global reality and maybe, just maybe, make a difference. Life, it’s kinda a big deal!
I totally agree, Brennan. I’ve got the same philosophy. I wish college would require study abroad for a semester. They require two years of general education classes in order to make you a well-rounded person. What can add more to that goal than by seeing the world from a different light? Geology 103 or living in Africa?
I wish I was better at my New Year’s resolution. I promise, I’ll try!! I think that interview is great.
