Kobe Bryant Is Too Good, The Lakers Can Afford To Play With Four

Do you think anyone in their right mind would agree with this?  Because the Lakers have Kobe Bryant or because the Cavs have Lebron James, they should only be allowed to play with 4?  I think most people would agree that it was a lame concept.  Why then do we tolerate similar policy and rhetoric about our tax code?  How many times have you heard Obama and the democrats say that we should tax the rich because they can afford it and because it only affects 2% of families?  Maybe because Kobe is so good, we should make him shoot left handed.  I liken that argument to the argument about taxing the rich because the top 10% of individuals have 70% of the wealth.  It drives me crazy.  The progressive tax rates are unamerican.

Jason, I knew this post was from you before I even read it. Good analogy. Why tear down people who have worked hard to be more successful? It’s the bucket of crabs. (Put crabs in a bucket and walk away. They’ll never escape the bucket because as one tries to get out, the others pull it back down.)

I never thought of that analogy before. It makes a great point. It’s funny tho because I bet Kobe would welcome the challenge. Then he would complain when it didn’t work out. And it wouldn’t make for a fair and entertaining game. So what is the proposal then? A flat tax rate for everyone?

    Playing on the hypothetical analogy:

The arguments in favor of them playing with four players would include: “They should be willing to because they are paid so much.” or “If they refuse to play with only four players, the game will have to be cancelled, and think of all the little people (hot dog vendors, concessions people, valet parking personnel, et) that will not make any money to support their families.”

To tie-it in, “the rich should be willing to pay higher taxes, because they are so much less deserving of their wealth than a janitor.” Right?

    Great analogy.
And that’s totally sad about the crabs! :(
