The stimulus bill is more expensive than the Iraq and Afghanistan war combined.
“As a nation, we got into this mess by spending and investing money that didn’t exist. We won’t get out of it by doing more of the same.” Senator Tom Coburn (R-OK). That is why it is called a bubble. There’s nothing of substance to sustain it.
Here’s a brilliant use of money in the stimulus package:
Milwaukee Public Schools would reap $88.6 million over two years for new construction - even though the district has 15 vacant school buildings, a large surplus of property and no plans for new construction…. Enrollment is declining every year, and the last major wave of construction in MPS - the $102 million Neighborhood School Initiative launched in 2000 - resulted in projects that are underused, have not met enrollment projections or have closed.
Some are calling the plan a self-stimulus for the federal government. Billions of dollars are going to upgrades for the government. Title VI, Financial Services and General Government, says that “not less than $6,000,000,000 (that’s right nine zeroes) shall be used for construction, repair, and alteration of Federal buildings.” The current, Senate-amended version now lists “an ADDITIONAL amount to be deposited in the Federal Buildings Fund, $9,048,000,000.” Of this, “not less than $6,000,000,000 shall be available for measures necessary to convert GSA facilities to High-Performance Green Buildings.” That’s over $15,000,000,000 for federal building upgrades.
Senator Jim DeMint (R-SC) has an alternative plan to cut business taxes from 35% to 25%, repeal the AMT, reduce the estate tax to 15%, and keep the capital gains tax at 15%.
California’s global warming crusade is leaving businesses and employees out in the cold. http://online.wsj.com/article/SB123336500319935517.html
A little more hipocrisy. During a campaign event in May, Obama said we have to “lead by example.” “We can’t drive our SUVs and eat as much as we want and keep our homes on 72 degrees at all times.” But Obama likes the Oval Office so warm that Chief of Staff David Axelrod said ”you could grow orchids in there.” Don’t get me started on his massive Escalade.
Man-made global warming alarmist Bruno Wiskel of the University of Alberta has become a skeptic.
Noting that the Earth has been warming for 18,000 years, Wiskel told a Canadian newspaper, “If this happened once and we were the cause of it, that would be cause for concern. But glaciers have been coming and going for billions of years.” Wiskel also said that global warming has gone “from a science to a religion” and noted that research money is being funneled into promoting climate alarmism instead of funding areas he considers more worthy. “If you funnel money into things that can’t be changed, the money is not going into the places that it is needed,” he said.
