Isn’t the Obama administration supposed to be about change? The end of corruption? A new way of government? Let’s check the tally…
Mr. Obama’s original nominee for Commerce Secretary - Bill Richardson, had to withdraw his name because of some improper campaign contributions and “pay to play”.
Mr. Obama’s Secretary of Treasury, the head of the IRS - Timothy Geithner, is a tax cheat. Paid $50,000 in back taxes during the vetting process.
Mr. Obama’s nominee for Secretary of Health and Human Services - Tom Daschle, also a tax cheat. Paid $100,000 in back taxes once he was being suggested for appointment.
Mr. Obama’s replacement in the Senate - Rolland Burris, appointed by the now removed from office ex governor of Illinois who tried to sell the seat. Mr. Obama and the Senate’s objection to his seating… Who knows what happened?
This all begs the question… Does anyone in Mr. Obama’s cabinet pay taxes?

Can I add a few regarding change:
1) “I will veto every non-essential spending bill that comes across my desk” - but is OK with the current “permanent” spending bill
2) 2.5 million jobs created, I mean 4 million, I mean 3 million…
3) Lobbyists working in cabinet… Didn’t he suspend the rules once already and now he is letting Geithner?
On to the other topic…taxes.
I recently read a book discussing how much charitable contributions democrats make vs republicans. Overwhelmingly, Republicans pay more in taxes and ALSO contribute more to charities. Why then is it a democratic platform for entitlement programs??? Because they know they won’t be the ones paying into them. And apparently its not because of “tax loopholes” its because they misstate and hide their income!!
I usually avoid the whole generalized arguments of republican vs democrat but the recent tax issues are just balogney!
I agree, it’s very ironic that the very people that champion higher taxes in order to provide for the “greater public good” are the very people evading taxes.
Nancy Killefer, nominated by President Obama as Chief Performance Officer, is withdrawing from the post due to a “tax problem”. I guess three tax cheats is too many, but two is ok.
I need to totally reverse my opinion of Obama. He really IS cleaning house! By the end of the cabinet nomination process, I’ll know every official/ex-official who has lied on their taxes! Brilliant!
During the election, I did a little research on charitable contributions. Here is what I found.
Perhaps Obama and Biden need the governement to force them to share their wealth since they can’t seem to decide to do so of their own accord. Over the last 10 years, Senator Biden has given 0.15% of his income to charity. From 2000 to 2006, Senator Obama gave an amazing 1.04% of his income to charity. That 1.04% includes the 6.1% Obama gave to charity in 2006 when he realized that if he wanted to be President, he should probably be a little more generous. Once again, it is selfish ambition that drives Obama’s decisions. (to check the numbers go to http://www.visaliatimesdelta.com/article/20081018/OPINION03/810180302)
In 2007, Biden gave $995 of his adjusted gross income of $320,000 to charity.
From American Thinker (http://www.americanthinker.com/blog/2008/10/obama_forgot_to_spread_his_own.html):
In fact, Obama gave substantially less than the average family making more than $150,000, which averages giving of 2.2 percent of total income according to University of Georgia Professor Russell James.
If paying your taxes is being a true American (as I’ve heard some democrats say), then these people should be denounced and deported. No?
