Last week Jason posted about contacting your US Senator in response to Timothy Geithner’s appointment as Treasury Secretary. Through email, it’s very easy to interact with your representative.
When the original $700 billion bailout was being debated in the House and Senate, I emailed my representative, Dana Rohrbacher, and told him he should vote “no” on the bill. He ended up voting no and sent me a letter confirming his vote. I probably did not make or break his decision, but if there were hundreds of other people like me voicing their opinions to their representative, then maybe we were heard a bit more.
There is another bill in front of Congress right now that approaches 1 trillion dollars!!! Apparently Republicans are not giving it the support that Democrats had hoped. And this is good. I think this is a great opportunity to, again, email your Representative and Senator and tell them what you think about the bill. The one thing I am going to focus on is the bailing out of individual homeowners. I am going to make it clear that i do not think individual homeowners should be bailed out in any way. They caused this problem so they are going to fix it through foreclosure. I am going to urge them not to budge at all on this issue.
