Battery-powered cars are the rage at this year’s Auto Show in Detroit and everyone knows why. A government bailout has a lot to do with it, but quite simply, these electric cars are supposed to save the world from catastrophic global warming.
Meanwhile, outside the convention center in Detroit, today it was -12 degrees. That is 43 degrees below average. The wind chill was recorded at -24 degrees. Schools were shut down, not because of ice or snow, but simply because of how cold it was. Its described as dangerously cold.
One more amusing point is that AAA reported that hundreds of cars were immobilized this morning. The reason, dead batteries. Isn’t it ironic, don’t you think?

Kind of a tangent to your point, but I don’t get how the electric car would help the environment. It doesn’t seem like our public electricity infrastructure is that environmentally friendly either. Isn’t like 60% of our electricity still generated by coal plants? If that’s true or near true, I don’t see how it would be efficient to send electricity across hundreds of miles of wire to someone’s home, then have a transformer send the electricity to a battery, which then would power a magnetic motor to power the vehicle’s drive train. Combine the lower efficiency with all the chemicals used to make batteries and it seems like the vehicle’s internal combustion would be more efficient and less damaging to the environment.
I’ve gotta be wrong. Right?
