What the AP and NY Times aren’t reporting on

While the AP reports that time is running out to deal with global warming, (on Monday, they said the current cooling trend is evidence of how fast the world is warming, huh?) Senator James Inhofe of Oklahoma has been compiling a list of 650 scientists to rebut the global warming “consensus.”

The 231 page report details how the global warming fearmongerers were forced to endure the following: falling global temperatures; peer-reviewed studies predicted a continued lack of warming; a failed attempt to revive the discredited “Hockey Stick” (this is one of my favorites); and various studies on everything from CO2 to Hurricanes to lack of atmospheric dust to Polar Bears to the failure of oceans to warm and rise as predicted.

“I am a skeptic…Global warming has become a new religion.” - Nobel Prize Winner for Physics, Ivar Giaever.

Warming fears are the “worst scientific scandal in the history…When people come to know what the truth is, they will feel deceived by science and scientists.” - UN IPCC Japanese Scientist Dr. Kiminori Itoh, an award-winning PhD environmental physical chemist.

“So far, real measurements give no ground for concern about a catastrophic future warming.” -  Scientist Dr. Jarl R. Ahlbeck, a chemical engineer at Abo Akademi University in Finland, author of 200 scientific publications and former Greenpeace member.

“The Kyoto theorists have put the cart before the horse. It is global warming that triggers higher levels of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere, not the other way round…A large number of critical documents submitted at the 1995 U.N. conference in Madrid vanished without a trace. As a result, the discussion was one-sided and heavily biased, and the U.N. declared global warming to be a scientific fact,” Andrei Kapitsa, a Russian geographer and Antarctic ice core researcher.

“For how many years must the planet cool before we begin to understand that the planet is not warming? For how many years must cooling go on?” - Geologist Dr. David Gee the chairman of the science committee of the 2008 International Geological Congress who has authored 130 plus peer reviewed papers, and is currently at Uppsala University in Sweden.

Meanwhile, Obama plots to bypass the legislature and use the Clean Air Act to classify carbon as a dangerous pollutant.  The CAA was never meant or designed to regulate something like carbon.  I think doing so will be political suicide for Obama once people realize how expensive it will be.  While I don’t mind seeing Obama commit political suicide, I fear the horrific economic consequences that will result.

Really liked this post, especially after reading the “straw man” comment left on the previous post. I understood the point/sarcasm of his comment, but how else would you argue against global-warming-doom-criers other than by breaking apart their arguments? This post definitely gives the challengers some teeth.

I’ve always been very uncomfortable with the idea that humans are causing “global warming.” I am glad that it appears scientists who challenge the basic global warming assumptions may now be getting more media time and credibility. I also wonder if Al Gore has started sweating yet? (From the pressure, not the global warming of course!) Considering his role in bringing global warming concepts to the mainstream, he must wonder if his credibility will be damaged (more so than when he claimed to have invented the internet) :)

Don’t get me wrong… I believe in being environmentally-conscious, respecting nature, etc. I hate seeing pictures of polluted lakes and garbage in the ocean. I always turn the light off when I leave the room. But I wish all the money spent in the “global warming” campaign had been spent on researching and developing cleaner fuels, running recycle campaigns, and promoting overall environmental friendliness. You don’t have to try and scare people to get them to act responsibly.

Great post and great comments. Most people (like me) accepted global warming because that’s all that was being thrown at us. Only one side of the argument is being published. This shows how easy it is to “prove” anything you want. If you are looking to prove a theory, you can find evidence for it. I would like to know why warming global temperatures trigger more CO2 in the atmosphere.

So how many of the global warming scientists actually believe in their theories and how many of them are only in it for the exciting and publicity? And people criticize lawyers for bending the truth…

@Eric - That’s classic. Those jerks in the Southern Hemisphere are stealing all our daylight. Quick, stop them!

@Eric B. - That’s exactly the point I was trying to get across. Maybe I should have read the article before writing my other comment. People cite computers like they are intelligent beings. In reality, computers are dumber than a fly. They can’t do anything unless they are told. So saying that a computer has shown that the climate is changing is dumb.

Basically, every single “scientific” field can be manipulated. Scientists: Change the hypothesis. Statisticians: Alter the sample pool. Computer scientists: Alter the algorithm. Accountants: Defer the expenses, recognize the revenue. Economists: Alter the curve.

How do we take the bias out of science? Seems like the only person who can be trusted is the bag girl at the grocery store. “Paper or plastic?”

See, this is the kind of stuff that is more persuasive than attacking Al Gore or the media.

Ultimately, there could indeed be mass deception among the scientific community regarding global warming. However, you have to ask yourself, “Why?”. Why would such a vast number of reputable experts lay their expertise on the line for this? I agree that it’s become almost a religion, but surely global warming data has been reviewed, revised, and re-checked time and time again.

I think it’s easy to pin an agenda to a newspaper, politician, or celebrity, but pinning an agenda to scientists? Especially when the vast majority hold to many of the same basic explanations? What reason would Bill Nye the Science Guy, for instance, have for stepping up to address his personal concern on the matter?

  7. Taylor Says:

Many scientists have an agenda just like a newspaper or politician. Most of scientific funding comes from government. Look at the IPCC which is funded by the UN. The scientists working at the IPCC would not have a job if it were not for the global warming fears. They want to keep the big grants flowing.

  8. Mark Says:

Along with government funding, scientists are also driven by being published. With each article published, their notoriety builds. If they can publish on a contemporary, ambiguous topic like global warming, it makes it easy for them to get their name out there. No one really knows what causes global warming nor if it’s even a problem, so the topic is wide open for interpretation.

  9. Trevor Says:

Well of course there are some scientists that have agendas. But global warming theories are not being promoted by just a few scientists. They’re being promoted by most scientists. Big difference.

I’d find it a lot easier to ignore or write off if the warnings were coming from a majority. However, since my understanding of climatology pales in comparision to most of these scientists, I’m gonna feel inclined to heed them.

  10. Ron Russell Says:

Global Warming Theory–just a fad that probably will pass in time, but the scary thing is that so many leaders and people have brought into this crazy idea. So-called experts disagree–statistics are malipulated by both sides. Al (global warming) Gore says the debate is over–how closed minded can a man be (this is th height of aggorance), he is a a nut case, if ever their was one.

Warming and cooling periods are a natural part of earth’s geological cycles. To try and use this for some political goal is not only evil, but dangerous. Yes, we need to protect our environment, but at what cost. These global warming extremist would roll back the clock on progress. I’m a child of the 1950’s and loved that period–a better time for sure. I hate to see the forest cut and the rivers dammed–but manmade global warming (thats a bridge to far)!!!
