California May Use IOU’s to Pay Vendors

That’s right. Maybe we should just use Monopoly money. This is from the state that has the 7th largest economy in the world. Has one of the highest income tax rates in the US. I can’t begin to say how annoyed I am. Why do people live in California? The weather. What does the government do to help with the weather? Nothing. Why do we pay such high taxes? Please tell me I’m getting something out out it. Good schools? No. Good transportation system? No. Good police or fire protection? Hmmm, wild fires every year, riots, LAPD… No. What are we getting anyway? Nothing. Do you know if you make over $45,000 in California you are in the highest tax bracket! Yeah all us rich 50,000aires. What marginal % do we pay? 9.3%. On top of the 25% you pay at the federal level. Not to mention all the BS CASDI taxes.

Amen, Jason. And Arnold wants to raise the sales tax! Putting it close to 9%!

What the crap does California do with all that money? Where does it all go? I’m sure some of it goes to pay for healthcare for all the illegal immigrants. What does California do for its taxpayers that Texas doesn’t? Texas has no state income tax.

  3. Eric Says:

Texas does have the highest property tax rate in the U.S. So they are still bringing in a lot of money each year, but they don’t spend it like California.

  4. Jason Says:

I’d almost bet money the median person pays more property taxes in CA than they do in Texas just because of the difference in property values.

  5. Casey Says:

CA’s spending problem will come to a head someday, and it won’t end well.

  6. Eric Says:

The U.S.’s spending problem still hasn’t come to a head. I can see CA following in the same footsteps.

Hi Jason — I am you sis’s friend Kate’s friend. I work for MTS, the public transit company — and let me tell you, everyone there is so frustrated, so frustrated with the Gov. There’s no way for us to improve the service and create better rail service for our children with him constantly cutting our funds to fix the deficit.

On the table right now is a proposal to completely stop public transportation funding from the state. Stop it — and never restart it when the economy changes. That’s billions, but specifically $14 million for San Diego and some for north county too. It’s so frustrating. I can’t even tell you!!

  8. Mark Says:

How long till we see California asking Washington for a bailout?

@Natalie - That’s awful that they want to cut funding completely. Public transit is a great way to lower our dependency on foreign oil. Europe has figured out the public transit problem, why can’t California?

  9. Jason Says:

CA already has asked Washington for a bailout. I think two or three different ways.

  10. Eric Says:

I actually don’t think public transit is necessarily a good thing for California. Many cities, especially the San Diego, Los Angeles, and Orange County areas, were designed and built for cars. The cities are way too spread out to make public transportation feasible on a large scale. Local buses work OK, but longer distance transportation doesn’t make much sense.

We got our IOU in the mail last month. I’ll have to scan it and put it up on here.
